Coast Southwest is pleased to announce that Shannon Smith Butz has joined the company as technical director, surfactants. She will work from her home office in Paso Robles, CA and will have an interdepartmental reporting structure to Joseph C. Cimo, Kevin D. Sathre, and Lisa M. Jones.

Shannon will be primarily responsible for supporting the Lubrizol Advanced Materials’ line in the western, inter-mountain, and Pacific Northwest states, as well as supporting the company’s other surfactant business outside of our authorized Lubrizol territory. Her duties will include fielding internal and customer product inquiries, assisting with technical service requests (TSRs), making joint customer calls, developing technical data sheets, and providing formulation guidance.

For the last twenty-plus years, Shannon has been in technical and applications management positions with Lubrizol Advanced Materials. She began her career as a laboratory and quality control chemist and brings extensive experience in both the chemistry and application of surfactants.

Shannon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences with a concentration in anatomy and physiology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. She has co-authored multiple technical publications and papers.

She is a member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, American Chemical Society, and served on the Green Chemistry Task Force of the Personal Care Products Council. She also served as company representative to Chemical Industry Council of California (CICC).
